Scientists in the Jenson lab carry out research that draws on diverse disciplines and methodologies to answer complex scientific questions related to the interplay between phage and bacteria. We welcome scientists from a wide variety of backgrounds including biochemistry, bioinformatics, genetics, and structural biology as our projects often require a combination of scientific approaches to address. Scientists who are interested in developing/using their skills and creativity to elucidate molecular mechanisms of host defense are encouraged to apply.
Postdoctoral Scientists:
If you are interested in training in the Jenson lab, please email Justin_Jenson<at>med.unc.edu with a brief description of your research interests, background, CV, and career goals. If we have a suitable opening, you will be asked to send three letters of recommendation, which may be followed up by an interview.
Graduate Students:
We have opportunities available for first-year graduate students to rotate in our lab. These students are typically enrolled in PhD programs at the university. Applications should be submitted directly to the PhD programs, which will facilitate interviews on campus for selected candidates. These visits provide an opportunity to discuss your interest in our lab before finalizing your graduate program selection.
Be sure to mention your interest in the Jenson lab in both your application and to the graduate office.
Students will conduct research rotations before deciding on a thesis lab in the spring of their first year. The lab typically welcomes one or two new graduate students annually.
Undergraduate Research:
The Jenson lab encourages UROP candidates interested in our work to contact Prof. Jenson directly to inquire about openings.
